DoW Breast Cancer, Breakthrough Award Levels 1 and 2

Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) Breakthrough Award mechanism supports promising research with high potential to lead to or make breakthroughs in breast cancer. All applications must address at least one of the FY26 BCRP overarching challenges or provide adequate justification for exception. Applications must address the challenge in a way that can lead to a breakthrough and have major impact. The FY26 Breakthrough Award mechanism contains four different funding levels designed to support major (but not all) stages of research that will lead to clinical application. Each level specifies a distinct research scope. This program announcement discusses the Breakthrough Award Levels 1 and 2. Distinctive Features: * This funding mechanism allows for applications submitted under Funding Level 1 or Funding Level 2. Funding Level 2 also includes a Population Science Studies option. With compelling justification, population science studies may request higher levels of funding and an additional year in the period of performance. * This funding mechanism allows for a single Principal Investigator (PI), or two partnering PIs referred to as the Initiating PI and the Partnering PI. For the Partnering PI Option (PPIO), only the Initiating PI will submit a pre-application, but both PIs will need to submit at the full application stage. Be advised, failure to submit all associated (Initiating and Partnering PI) applications by the deadline may result in administrative withdrawal.

Cancer Prevention and Control Programs for State, Territorial, and Tribal Organizations

Since 1990, CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC) has been working with national organizations, state, territory, freely associated state, and tribal health agencies, and other key groups to develop, implement, and promote effective strategies for preventing and controlling cancer. DCPC's overall mission is to work toward having all people free of cancer while improving health outcomes through prevention, screening, and ongoing care for cancer survivors. DCPC supports comprehensive cancer control, a philosophical approach that brings together partners and other organizations to collectively address a community's cancer burden in a much more impactful way than any one organization could accomplish alone. This NOFO will fund eligible applicants to facilitate collaborative planning and implementation of evidence-based cancer surveillance, prevention, and control strategies in communities that improve the provision of clinical preventive services, and cancer survivorship. Ultimately, a successful implementation of the work described in this NOFO will demonstrate that by the three programs working together through partnerships, coordination of resources and efforts, consistent communication, and community involvement, we will come that much closer to the division's mission of "All People Free of Cancer." This program takes a comprehensive, coordinated approach to achieve these goals. It supports breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services, cancer control plan implementation by coalitions, and surveillance programs to monitor and report cancer burden.These goals will be accomplished by funding three national programs:Program 1: National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) supports clinical services for women with low incomes who do not have adequate insurance and implementation of evidence-based interventions in the clinics that serve them. Component A: Supports breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic follow-up for women with low incomes who do not have adequate insurance. Component B: (Optional) Supports implementation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs) shown to increase breast and cervical cancer screening.Program 2: National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) supports cancer coalition efforts that use their individual and collective resources to plan and implement evidence-based strategies as described in jurisdiction-wide cancer plans.Program 3: National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) supports the implementation of a population-based central cancer registry program.

NOTICE: Amended September 2, 2026. This amendment adds this new program element to ROSES-2025. Step-1 proposals are due October 8, 2026, and Step-2 proposals are due January 28, 2027 . Any proposal not preceded by an on-time compliant Step-1 proposal will be returned without review . A briefing for potential proposers to this program element will occur Monday, September 14, from 2-3 PM Eastern Time . The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) released its annual omnibus Research Announcement (NRA), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2025 (OMB Approval Number 2700-0092, CFDA Number 43.001) on February 21, 2025. In this case "omnibus" means that this NRA has many individual program elements, each with its own due dates and topics. All together these cover the wide range of basic and applied supporting research and technology supported by SMD. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, or contracts depending on the nature of the work proposed. However, most extramural research awards deriving from ROSES will be grants, and many program elements of ROSES specifically exclude contracts, because contracts would not be appropriate for the nature of the work solicited.
